Is balila safe for diabetics?

In this regard, Dr. Ahmed Anwar, a consultant in endocrinology and internal medicine, said that balila is not prohibited for diabetics, stressing that it does not cause any harm to their health except in one case.

Anwar added that balila plays a major role in maintaining the balance of blood sugar levels in diabetics, because it contains an extremely important nutritional element.

The endocrinology consultant explained that balila derives its ability to regulate blood sugar levels from its high content of dietary fiber, which helps slow the absorption of carbohydrates in the intestines and improves insulin sensitivity in the body.

There is another case in which balila may raise blood sugar, which is “if the milk used to prepare it is full-fat,” because it contains a high percentage of carbohydrates, estimated at about 12 grams per cup, according to WebMD.
