BERITAKALTIM.CO-The use of water nets is considered quite effective in reducing the number of cases of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DBD) in the city of Balikpapan, for example in South Balikpapan.
This was stated by the Head of the Balikpapan Health Office, Dr. Andi Sri Juliarty.
Dio’s nickname is Dr. Andi Sri Juliarti gave an example in South Balikpapan District, one of which is in the Sepinggan area. Dengue fever cases were quite high at first, but after the use of water nets, dengue fever cases in the area have now decreased.
Now he said that the areas experiencing an increase in dengue fever cases were actually in the districts of North Balikpapan and Central Balikpapan.
Dio explained that the use of water nets was an effort or innovation from the Balikpapan City Government following the outbreak of dengue fever cases at the beginning of last year.
According to him, the Balikpapan Health Office has distributed water nets to residents, but not all residents or heads of families (KK) receive water nets, so residents are expected to be able to make or buy their own.
“There are a number of areas in Balikpapan where residents can make water nets. “One of them is at SMAN 5 school which can make water nets,” he said.
Dio explained that water nets are one way to solve the larva problem, especially since Balikpapan City residents often collect water.
According to him, by using water nets, mosquitoes cannot enter water reservoirs, so they cannot breed. If there are already larvae in the water reservoir, it is necessary to sprinkle mosquito larvae killing medication using Abate powder.
He stated that dengue fever mosquitoes usually live and breed in water reservoirs. The Aedes Aegypti mosquito likes dark and damp places. The temperature in Balikpapan City is sufficient for the Aedes Aegypti mosquito to breed.
“DHF mosquitoes like to be in clean water, and temperatures such as in Balikpapan City are around 24-32 Celsius to breed,” he said.
He emphasized that he would eradicate the Aedes Aegypti mosquito. We have to get to the roots, not just eradicate adult mosquitoes.
“If you use fogging or fumigation, it’s only for adult mosquitoes, if you use water nets, abate powder will eradicate them from the roots, and now it’s just a matter of community commitment to apply it,” he said. #
