Jakarta –
The construction progress of the Balikpapan Refinery Development Master Plan (RDMP) project has reached 82%. This percentage is recorded until September 2023.
Deputy Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Kartika Wirjoatmodjo believes that the project construction progress is targeted for completion in 2025.
“I am quite confident and proud that despite the challenges of COVID-19, this project has reached the target of 82%. And it is hoped that starting from January we will gradually start commissioning and repairing the components in 2025,” he said via the official Instagram account @pertamina, Wednesday (28/9/ 2023)
Together with the Main Director of PT Pertamina Nicke Widyawati, Kartika reviewed the development of the project which is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN).
According to Nicke, the RDMP project is the project with the highest level of difficulty as well as the largest project value in Pertamina’s history. The reason is, Pertamina must build a new refinery without stopping the Pertamina Balikpapan refinery from continuing to operate.
Not only will it increase refinery capacity from 260 thousand bpd to 360 thousand bpd, the Balikpapan RDMP Project will also improve the quality of fuel production to be much more environmentally friendly.
“So we have to ensure that the project continues to operate with high safety and reliability. And this project is carried out with limitations on movement, both people and equipment,” he explained.
Reporting from the official account, the RDMP project consists of more than 5,200 pieces of equipment with a total weight of 110,000 tons or the equivalent of 4.5 times the weight of the Statue of Liberty.
One of them is the RFCC First Generator installation, weighing 1,099 tons or the equivalent of 12 Boeing 737-800 aircraft. Meanwhile, the total weight of the steel structure reaches more than 74,000 tons, or 7 times the weight of the Eiffel Tower. Meanwhile, more than 23,000 workers were involved in this construction.
