Badung –
Governor of Bali I Wayan Koster highlighted a number of tourists in Bali who violate and act naughty. Because of this, Koster opens up the possibility of implementing foreign tourist quotas in Bali.
“Well, now there is a new phenomenon, a number of tourists who are doing mischief, disorderly, most of them are from Russia. And what is emerging we cannot just stop suddenly, because when we are recovering tourism, Bali is trying to revive tourism so that It’s running again,” said Koster at the Trans Resort Bali Hotel, Seminyak, North Kuta, Badung, Thursday (4/5/2023).
Koster said that since January 2023 until now, there have been 101 tourists who have been deported from Indonesia. The majority of them are tourists from Russia.
“Until now, 101 foreign tourists have been deported. Some have been deported, some are being processed by law here. In the criminal justice process, more than 100 have been deported and at most 27 are Russians,” he said.
“Russia, the number of tourists currently in Bali is approximately 50 thousand, but the delinquency is at most 27 people deported, the others are small. Now, this cannot be handled case by case, that’s why I’m trying to carry out the policies that have been regulated in the regional regulations of the province of Bali,” he said.
According to him, this will be discussed in the agenda of the seminar ‘100 Years of Development in Bali’ tomorrow. He is open to implementing a quota system for foreign tourists in Bali.
“So we will implement a policy no longer mass tourism, we will limit it by implementing a quota system. The quota system in the next 100 years. If we let it go on for a long time, the ones who come are cheap tourists; most eat packaged rice, ride bicycles motorbike, it’s been breaking again, the last time it broke the ATM,” he said.
According to Koster, this problem must be addressed comprehensively. For the quota of tourists lining up, he continued, it must also be accompanied by carrying capacity and strength.
“Of course (regarding quotas) we will negotiate with the PHRI (Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association), with everything related, that’s how to arrange it. If quotas are queued up, people will come next year from the list now,” said Koster.
“We want to implement the system, but how many will be later we will see the capacity, then the strength of our carrying capacity in Bali,” he concluded.
