Joris Vos and Nelis Geubbelmans of the Balenese metalcore band Bones To Dust have recorded a metal version of the K3 hit ‘Waterval’. Their video has recently been uploaded to YouTube and has since been viewed more than 3,000 times. “Of course we want to go viral, but we don’t want to officially release the song,” they say.

In the aftermath of the search for a new K3 member, the three-piece girl group is currently scoring a mega hit in Flanders with ‘Waterval’.

For those who prefer it to sound a bit heavier, there has been a metal version since a few days. Nelis Geubbelmans and Joris Vos, singer and guitarist of the Balen metalcore band Bones To Dust, prove that the K3 earwig is also suitable for headbanging and moshing.

At midnight

“When I heard the original K3 hit, I wondered how this song would sound as a metal cover,” says Joris. “I then put it to the test and first started to give my own arrangement to the intro with my guitar. Then I worked out the song further and recorded the entire song in our rehearsal room. I played all the guitar and bass parts myself. I used a drum computer for the drum parts, because I can’t play the drums.”

When the instrumental version was ready, Joris drummed up singer Nelis Geubbelmans to sing the song. “It was even night work, because Joris came to pick me up at midnight,” says Nelis. “By 2 a.m. the song was ready. I did use a different singing style for this song than the scream style I usually sing in Bones To Dust. Anyone who knows the text of Waterfall can still sing along. I almost sound like Fleddy Melculy in this song.”

Funny side project

In the meantime, the video with the metal version of ‘Waterfall’ has been viewed more than 3,000 times on YouTube. “We have already received many positive reactions to our version,” say Joris and Nelis. “It has even been played on the radio as a request song for the Warmest Week. Some compare the style to Parkway Drive, a band that is a great example for us. It is also not the intention that we release this song on record or mp3. But it would be cool if it went viral. It’s also not a Bones To Dust song, but a funny side project.”

Nelis & Joris also do not want to record the entire K3 oeuvre in a metal version. “Maybe we’ll do it with a new song, but we’ll stay away from the older songs,” they say. “Whether it will be on a set list in the future? Who knows as an exceptional bis number. But in the first place we hope to be able to play live again with our own songs in the future. Although it will be a while now.”
