The town halls of the Balearic Islands will grant temporary taxi licenses from Monday
The Govern Illes Balears will approve on March 6 a regulation so that the city councils are the ones that determine the number of temporary taxi licenses to authorize depending on the needs.
The measure is intended to optimize the taxi service on the islands and avoid collapses or lack of vehicles during the summer season.
In the Balearic Islands, the taxi sector has been suffering from unfair competition for some time due to the massification of transport pirates.
The expansion of temporary taxi licenses, along with discretionary transportation, should meet a demand that multiplies in the summer months.
Allowing municipalities to issue temporary taxi licenses must be coupled with an efficient control service for pirate taxis and exhaustive control for Transport Vehicles with Drivers (VTC), since granting seasonal licenses so that the work can be carried out later by pirates and the VTCs illegally, it doesn’t make much sense.
