In November, after Wales’ unsuccessful performance at the 2022 World Cup finals in Qatar, national team captain Bale announced he wanted to continue his career in the ranks of the national team, but has now changed his mind and ended his career.
Bale was Wales’ only goalscorer in that final. He played the full 90 minutes against the United States and Iran, but played one half against England. Wales failed in all three group games to finish bottom.
In the Wales national team, Bale scored 41 goals in 111 matches – he is the record holder of the national team in both of these figures.
In qualifying for the 2024 European Championship, Wales will host Latvia at home on 28 March and visit Riga on 11 September.
