Baldwin to hunting press: ‘Halyna Hutchins was my friend’

Actor Alec Baldwin has spoken on camera for the first time about the death of Halyna Hutchins, the camerawoman who was shot by him during filming. In a video on entertainment site TMZ Baldwin speaks of a terrible event. He says he is in constant contact with Hutchins’ family and calls the dead woman “my friend”.

There is no real interview; the video was shot on the side of the road. Baldwin says in it that he and his family have been chased by paparazzi and that his children are crying in the car, but that he answers a few questions “out of politeness”. Baldwin’s wife tries to keep him from the conversation. At the end, the actor asks the hunting photographers to leave his family alone.

Baldwin used on October 21 when shooting for the film Rust a revolver he thought was unloaded. Hutchins was fatally shot, director Joel Souza was injured. The police investigation focuses on the two people responsible for the weapons on the set of the western. No one has been charged so far.

In the video, Baldwin goes on to say that he assumes that Rust is never completed. He does not answer questions about the police investigation or his own future. He does say that he is “very interested” in possible measures to limit the use of weapons on film sets.
