Baldur’s Gate III: Patch 2 Details, Performance Improvements, and Future Expansion Plans

Even a month after its release, Baldur’s Gate III is still very hot, regardless of the fact that the game in the list of best-selling titles skipped Starfield on Steam. Developers at Larian Studio have fixed the issue of the Xbox release, prepared the first big patch for players, and the reverberations of Gamescom are now bringing snippets of information about future plans, including details of the next big update and expansion ideas for the game, which the developers were not initially very positive about. But the situation is changing, even though according to the words of executive producer Tom Butler from an interview for IGN the studio will want to take full advantage of Christmas to relax, the developers are already thinking about what they will enrich Baldur’s Gate III with.

But let’s start with the details of the second big patch, which is born under the hands of Larian employees. The developers themselves first reported about it on social networks and confirmed that they will focus on the technical side of things. While the first act is superbly tuned – thanks also to the fact that it was available in early access for almost three years – in the second and especially in the third act the performance begins to seriously falter and really deserves more care. The developers promise it, along with many improvements and changes that may already affect the existing content of the game, or gameplay. The representatives of the studio talk, for example, about more elaborate epilogues for individual characters – they specifically mention Karlach and her ending, as well as the possibility of kicking players out of the party in cooperation or about the removal of a large number of bugs found in their game.

This brings us to the long post that the developers shared on Steam, and in which they discuss individual things in more detail. For example, there is a promise that players will actually be able to change the appearance of their character, as previously stated, and the developers are still returning to the mentioned epilogues. They are currently under scrutiny mainly due to data mining and the subsequent discovery of content that does not appear in the game under normal circumstances. Therefore, some players turned to the studio with questions about whether any unused content was removed or cut, which the developers do not deny, but explain why this happened. “We are quite strict with ourselves and our ideas. If it’s not good and if it’s not fun, it won’t make it into the game,” the developers say in a blog post. One of the reasons why players are not able to see everything from the originally planned epilogues, for example, was the length of the final cutscenes, which, according to the people at Larian, could have diluted the overall impact of the game’s strong ending too much. Nevertheless, the authors of Baldur’s Gate III decided to at least partially respond to the players and expand the ending a little.

If we’re going to go back to DLC info or any kind of content bloat, the idea was mentioned by Tom Butler above. But he openly admitted that at the moment there should be no concrete plans for what the players could start preparing for. It’s been said in the past that further leveling up characters would make you feel like you’re playing for almost omnipotent gods, so the people of Larian have to do it differently. “We want to do more [obsahu]. But we don’t know what yet [to bude],” Butler therefore said, leaving room for wishful thinking and speculation.
