Baldur’s Gate 3’s fifth patch adds a new playable epilogue with 3,589 lines of dialogue and more

UPD. The fifth patch has become available to all players.

Many Western media reported the release of the fifth patch for Baldur’s Gate 3, which adds a lot of new content to the large-scale role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons.

Regular players still don’t have access to it. It will probably be possible to download it within the next few hours, but these are just guesses and not official information. Here’s what we found out about the main contents of this patch:

Patch 5 fixes the stuttering issues caused by Patch 4, adds an all-new epilogue to end each player’s journey, and even new game modes.

A new playable epilogue, available to all players, takes place before the credits. Players find themselves at a camp six months after the events of Baldur’s Gate 3, where they “meet friends new and old, getting as much time as they need to say goodbye to the party.”

Larian called this epilogue “the final goodbye”. For Larian’s writers, this “final farewell” was one of the most complex scenarios in the game to date, as it takes advantage of the flexibility of play throughout the adventure,” says the developer. “A giant permutation tree determines the content in which new texts appear (3 589 lines to be exact), cinematic clips and even characters joining a camp gathering organized by Withers.”

Additionally, Patch 5 adds two new game modes: Honor Mode and Custom Mode. Honor Mode adds more challenge in and out of combat and introduces over 30 new changes to all boss fights, as well as a new Legendary Action system designed to catch players off guard and increase the difficulty of the game. According to Larian, bosses can now perform new actions, adding a twist to all of the game’s main fights.

Inspiration points become more valuable in Honor mode, the authors explained, because loading previous games – or “resetting saves” – is disabled, meaning players need to keep score. Some of the more powerful “unintended exploits” have been removed for players embarking on the adventure on Honor Mode, but remain open to players on other difficulty settings.

When a player dies, they will be shown statistics about their journey, including the duration and distance they lasted. Players may choose to continue their adventure, which will result in Honor mode being disabled. Players who manage to complete the entire game with honor mode enabled (without dying) will receive the coveted gold D20.

Custom mode, on the other hand, allows players to choose the type of experience that best suits them. Options include the ability to hide the roll required to make a successful dice check, making the game more realistic in the D&D style, as well as the ability to hide an opponent’s HP in combat, again more closely aligned with the tabletop style. Other options include short rests that completely heal the party, disabling death saving throws, and hiding failed perception checks, meaning you’ll never know the roll happened in the first place.

Patch 5 also improves inventory access, allowing players to manage the inventory of all companions from one UI, regardless of whether they are currently in your party or not. Larian also mentioned the performance improvements that came with the Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3, which will benefit all platforms. Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on Xbox Series X and S in December, and the release date will be announced at The Game Awards.

As previously reported, the fifth patch weighs 30 GB, but installation requires 130 GB of free space. Larian suggests that those who don’t have the space to install the update should uninstall Baldur’s Gate 3 and then re-download the patched version. Here Here you will find the full list of changes
