Baldur’s Gate 3 Receives High Praise in Famitsu Review Ahead of Japan Release

While Baldur’s Gate 3 is firmly at the top of the sales charts on Xbox, Larian Studios’ acclaimed RPG is gearing up for its debut in Japan, where it will be available starting December 21, 2023. And with the release literally just around the corner, Famitsu’s verdict couldn’t be missed.

In the 1829th issue of a popular Japanese magazine, a review of Baldur’s Gate 3 was published, which received another excellent rating of 36/40 – that is, four nines. Despite becoming the best PS5 game according to Metacritic, Baldur’s Gate 3 did not receive a single perfect score from the publication, but in any case it is one of the best results of the year according to Famitsu.

As for the other games reviewed by Famitsu, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, the new fighting game from Arc System Works, scored only slightly lower than Larian’s game, with two 9s and two 8s, for a total of 34/40. Rounding out the quartet are Metro Quester, which received 30/40 (8, 8, 7, 7), and Magicians Dead Force of the Soul, which did not go beyond 28/70 (7, 7, 7, 7).

  • Baldur’s Gate III (PS5) – 9/9/9/9 [36/40]
  • Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising (PS5, PS4) – 9/8/8/9 [34/40]
  • Magicians Dead: Force of the Soul (PS4) – 7/7/7/7 [28/40]
  • METRO QUESTER (PS5, Xbox Series, PS4, Xbox One, Switch) – 8/8/7/7 [30/40]

While we wait to see how things will go with sales of the game in Japan, it is worth recalling that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released in Japan immediately on physical media, unlike in the West, where retail copies published by Larian will have to wait until early 2024.
