Originally scheduled for release on August 31st, Baldur’s Gate 3 moved the release of the PC version forward by about a month. This is to avoid a period of high expectations such as Starfield, Cyberpunk 2077 and Phantom Liberty.
On the 30th, Larian Studio, which is developing Baldur’s Gate 3, explained the change in the release schedule through the Steam official page. According to this, the PC version will be officially released on August 3, one month earlier than planned, and the PS5 version will be released on September 6, delayed by about a week. Regarding the reason for pulling the schedule for the PC version, the management explained that it was ‘time to spend more time playing’.
More specifically, it was decided to move it to a time that does not overlap with September, when the expected RPG release was announced. Larian Studio CEO Swen Vincke revealed the detailed reason through an interview with Kotaku, an overseas media outlet published on the 29th (local standard). “When we realized we couldn’t release both the PC and console versions at the same time, we started looking for other ways to present the game,” Vinke said. I found out that it is a very busy year.” He decided that ‘August 3’ was an appropriate time for users to play the game while not distracting their attention.

The reason why the release of the PS5 version was delayed by one week was to ensure a stable 60 frame drive. The production team said they didn’t want to compromise on the quality of the game or lower it to 30 frames just to fit the schedule. Finally, regarding the Xbox series X/S, he said that he is preparing to achieve the same performance on both devices. In particular, it is necessary to check whether it is possible to play without performance degradation in terms of online multiplayer and local co-op play by splitting the screen.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will start Early Access on Steam in August 2020, and will transition to an official release in three years. The official release version adds character maximum level expansion, new races such as Dragonborn and Half Orc, 22 new subclasses, new playable characters and related stories. Details will be announced at the showcase on July 7th.
Baldur’s Gate is well known as a classic Western RPG series with a Dungeons & Dragons universe. This is the third title in the series, developed by Larian Studios, famous for Divinity: Original Sin. It deals with Illithid, an alien race that appeared in the previous work, as the main villain, and supports both single play and party play.
Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on August 3rd for PC and September 6th for PS5, and does not support Korean. Nine languages are supported, including English, simplified Chinese, Russian, and Turkish.
