Baldur’s Gate 3 is full of great characters, as well as beautiful pieces of clothing and armor. However, there are items in the game that look less attractive but have better stats than those that look worse. Aesthetics or functionality? This is a decision that no one wants to face.
So it’s no surprise that fans are calling on Larian to eliminate this choice entirely. Players want Baldur’s Gate 3 to introduce a transmog system that allows everyone to wear their favorite armor while still maintaining the benefits of the most suitable armor.
Redditor Groundhog_Gary writes in a post that has collected more than a thousand votes:
This game desperately needs transmog. Seriously, why is this such an oversight in games? Every RPG should have this feature, I don’t understand why the developers don’t understand this.
This isn’t the only fan idea for changes to how gear works in Baldur’s Gate 3. One player is suggesting the ability to select outfit tops and bottoms separately, while another wants to use any items as camp gear.
In fact, the last point will solve many problems. At any point in the game you can switch to camp equipment, and if you are not in a camp, you will retain the characteristics of the armor you are wearing.
This is not a perfect transmog system, as players are limited to wearing clothing that is listed as camp gear rather than armor, but it still avoids wearing an ugly but good stat item. Plus, there’s some great camp gear to be found in Act 3.
Larian has not yet commented on the addition of transmog in a future update, so it is unclear if it will ever be implemented. However, if you play on PC, then modding can help.
For those playing on console, they’ll have to work with camp gear and clothing dyes and hope that will be enough to make our characters look neater. At least until the official transmog comes out.
