Cologne – Christmas 2021 is coming – and with it the reflective holidays. Many are on holiday around Christmas and enjoy the quiet time with their loved ones. A delicious breakfast with fresh bakery rolls is a must on the Christmas holidays. But watch out: the bakeries are not open to customers as usual. Because the shops have to close earlier over the public holidays, which is why the supermarkets close earlier than usual over Christmas. But how did the bakers open over Christmas? All federal states at a glance.
Opening times over Christmas
Bakeries all over Germany have adjusted opening times over Christmas. Because due to the shop opening laws of the individual federal states, only certain shops – such as in airports and train stations – are allowed to remain open on public holidays. Lidl, Aldi, Edeka and Co. have to close earlier on Christmas Eve.

- On Friday, December 24th (Christmas Eve), bakeries are often only open until the afternoon
- On Saturday, December 25th (Christmas Day) the bakers are closed or only open to a limited extent
- On Sunday, December 26th (Boxing Day), the bakers are often closed or only open to a limited extent
