Tasos Bakasetas, as the captain of the National Team, took a stand for the publication that said that a Greek football player who was on the team for the match against Georgia was found to be doped. In his statement he spoke of shame and asked the EPO to do everything to punish those who defiled the Greek international.
Bakaseta’s statement: “As the captain of the national team, I cannot understand why they tarnish the names of footballers especially when this ban has come, which we will take time to digest. And there are people who smear footballers in the worst way. Believe me, getting the players to think about doping is the worst thing and he always carries it. I demand this to stop, they are creating a problem out of nowhere.
A player took me and asked if there is a problem with his children’s antibiotics and if he has illegal substances. Those who started it are doing a lot of harm. They owe an apology. I want to believe that the EPO and the footballers will do everything to punish them. Tarnishing an international footballer like this is the worst. If there was such a thing, instead of covering it up, we put it in the crosshairs and present something untrue and dirty. Shame on those who do such a thing.”
