Baidu’s Ernie Chatbot to be Integrated into Samsung Galaxy S24 Smartphones for Real-Time Translation and AI Features

Baidu’s Ernie 4.0 version, launched in October, is touted as the most powerful iteration of the foundation model to date. With enhanced understanding, generation, reasoning, and memory capabilities, Ernie 4.0 is on par with OpenAI’s GPT-4 model. Baidu’s CEO, Robin Li, expressed confidence in Ernie’s advancements during the Baidu World 2023 event. The company reported that Ernie bot surpassed 100 million users within four months of its release, signaling its competitiveness in the generative AI market in China.
However, Baidu faced a setback earlier this year when media reports suggested that a People’s Liberation Army-affiliated organization had tested its AI system on Ernie. Baidu swiftly denied the allegations, clarifying that it had no business collaboration with the institution. Despite this controversy, Baidu remains a key player in the AI industry, and its stock performance reflects its resilience.
Looking ahead, market intelligence firm IDC predicts that AI functionalities will become increasingly integrated into personal devices, including smartphones.
