Baidu Launches the Land of Hope Metaverse App

Suara.com – Baidu, the Chinese internet giant, on Monday (12/27/2021) launched the application metaverse named Xirang or Land of Hope. The launch coincided with the company’s annual developer conference.

In the conference, which was held for three days, participants could participate through the Xirang metaverse, which was just launched by Baidu. The app can accommodate up to 100,000 online participants and nearly 100 speakers from around the world.

The Baidu metaverse platform creates a virtual planet in the shape of a Mobius band. In it the participants can enter in the form of an avatar. However, to enjoy the digital world, participants don’t need virtual reality glasses like Metaverse, Facebook’s parent company.

Inside Xirang, participants can see, hear, and interact with other users using computers, cell phones and wearables.

The presence of Xirang or the Land of Hope enlivened the metaverse competition, which was in the spotlight after Meta introduced Horizon World on December 9. Horizon World is only available in the US and Canada.

In China, the metaverse is also being developed by several companies, including gaming company NeaEase and Tencent, which is a rival to Baidu.

Tencent, last weekend, announced that it will launch TMELAND which is claimed to be a virtual music carnival in China. The virtual carnival will be held on December 31.

Meanwhile Alibaba, which is well-known in the e-commerce world, also launched a new business unit called Yuanjing Shengsheng on December 6 which aims to work on the metaverse gaming sector. [Global Times]
