Baiba Ozoliņa Releases Music Video “Why Do We Do It” from Debut Album “Liku bėdu zem”

Singer and songwriter Baiba Ozoliņa has shot a video for the song “Kāpēš vache darām tā”, which is part of her recently released debut album “Liku bėdu zem”.

“Why do we do it” is one of the most beautiful songs on Baiba Ozoliņa’s album. The producer of the video clip is Baiba himself, and the director and cameraman – Mila Kovaly. The video was filmed in Old Riga, at the hotel “St. Peters Boutique Hotel” in the building, as well as on the nearby Udenvada Street. The presentation was held over the weekend in the already mentioned hotel – in a close circle of relatives, friends and those involved in the filming of the clip.

“I wanted to make a video for this song for a while, and this was the right time – I saw Mila’s work on Instagram and realized that I wanted to work with her,” Baiba recalls. “We met, the script started to be written, and at that time I went to the acting course “Pūce Academy” with Dace Pūce. I offered my classmates to appear in the “Why we do it” video, and they happily accepted, which makes me very happy!

As a partner for her character, Baiba has spoken to the famous actor Yuri Djakonova – he responded and also contributed to represent references and turns of the relationship. In the other roles – Dace Jaunbalode, Anete Kēniņa, Krista Kivilande, Mārtiņš Jakubovskis, Yevgenijs Džeriņš. “The video is about couple relationships – about how they change and change. About untreated moral wounds that prevent healthy relationships. Whether we work on relationships, or we let them flow on their own, and as a result, the closest person can become a stranger over time,” Baiba explains the idea of the clip.

Baiba’s handwriting can also be seen in the new video work – the clip is more of a short music film than a video in the traditional sense. That is, the characters of the plot maintain an inaudible dialogue with the viewer while the song plays, creating the atmosphere of a film or TV series, contrary to the usual practice in the video clips, when the performer portrays singing (read – just with a wide mouth ) against a background of specially chosen photos.
