The world belongs to the brave. This can definitely be attributed to the show Monopoly a guest who undertakes, carries and implements ideas. A conversation with singer, cultural producer, Baiba Bartkeviča from Liepāja about several of them.
What are you looking for in music, art?
Baiba Bartkevich: It is also such a state of being for me, I would even say, because my day begins and ends with music and with art, and I also see and see it everywhere I look. For me, it is a huge component in my personality and also in my life. Being a professional musician myself, I still look for some amazing moment, some sense of wonder in art and music. Even when I hear and listen to well-known examples of music or artists, I always look for that amazing, real, live moment in that performance, or a new offer, or a concert.
It is important for me to maintain authenticity and a sense of freedom, I believe it has great value. Sometimes you have to sit down and think. I’m such a fast person… I can’t express my thoughts in words, sometimes my sentence breaks on the way because I already have another thought.
How do you see Liepāja after the celebration of the capital of culture? What should change?
Baiba Bartkevich: It cannot be said in one sentence, those goals are high and important for us. One thing I could mention is that I would like Liepāja to become more European, more open, more inclusive, more friendly, kinder, creative, cooperative, smart, intelligent, critical-thinking and future-oriented.
I think that this is a platform of opportunities for ourselves – to cooperate on our own, to cooperate with the Latvian forces, with international ones, to understand where we are going, to involve society, to create programs together, to look in the same direction together.
Baiba Bartkeviča, member of the artistic affairs board of the “Liepāja 2027” foundation, is from Liepāja.
