A fire destroyed several warehouses in Hamburg’s Bahrenfeld district on Wednesday evening. A nearby home has been evacuated, according to firefighters. More than 140 firefighters were on duty, nobody was injured.
First, around midnight, several wooden pallets burned in the depot of a drywall construction company on Am Diebsteich street. The fire spread, and eventually several warehouses were fully engulfed in flames. The flames rose several meters high and the glow of the fire could be seen from afar.

A nearby home was evacuated
Eyewitnesses called the fire department. Gusts blew dense clouds of smoke through the surrounding streets and over the Diebsteich cemetery. Two truck trailers also caught fire, they were on the road in front of the warehouse. A nearby home was evacuated, according to the fire department.

Because of the heavy smoke development caused by the fire, a danger report was sent via the NINA warning app. Residents of the districts of Bahrenfeld, Stellingen and Niendorf were asked to avoid the area and keep windows and doors closed.
No injuries
The fire brigade was deployed with several turntable ladders and special equipment. At around 6.30 a.m. on Thursday morning, the operations manager was able to give the all-clear. No one was injured in the fire. The cause of the fire is now being determined by the police.
