The Bahrain Culture and Antiquities Authority successfully participated in the fourth session of the Gulf Film Festival, which was held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
At the closing ceremony, the winners of the festival’s awards were announced, where 29 films from different Gulf countries competed. The award for best actress was won by renowned Bahraini artist Maryam Zeman for her role in the Bahraini feature film, “My Word,” directed by Mahmoud Al-Sheikh.
On this occasion, Sheikh Khalifa bin Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Bahrain Culture and Antiquities Authority, congratulated the artist Maryam Zeman, praising her valuable artistic works and her efforts in enriching the cinematic movement in the Kingdom of Bahrain, noting that this victory shows recognition of the high level that Bahraini creativity has reached Emphasizing the commitment of the Authority to encourage and support cinematic talent in the Kingdom to strengthen the cultural movement.
The Gulf Film Festival kicked off early last week amid a large presence of artists and creators from various Gulf countries, and was organized by the Saudi Film Authority in collaboration with the General Secretariat Gulf Cooperation Council.
Artist Maryam Zeman’s victory is the Kingdom of Bahrain’s second performance at the festival this year.
Among the 29 films screened at the festival, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities screened several films: The Mermaid by director Mohammed Ateeq, The Doorstep by director Saleh Nass, the documentary The Voice of the Feather by director Maryam Abdel Ghaffar, and the documentary Vision of the Promise – Salman bin Hamad by director Eva Daoud As well as the famous film My Word, directed by Mahmoud Al-Sheikh.
It should be noted that the festival is considered part of the Film Authority’s initiatives which aim to increase the level of cinematic production and artistic skills at local and regional levels, which will contribute to the development of communication cultural and intellectual among those involved in cinema, and highlights the importance of this area as a voice that promotes the creativity and art of the Gulf.
