Bahrain Welcomes Success of UAE Mediation in Prisoner Exchange Between Russia and Ukraine

The Kingdom of Bahrain welcomed the success of the UAE’s mediation efforts in exchanging prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine, expressing its appreciation for the UAE’s diplomatic initiatives to resolve disputes peacefully and mitigate their humanitarian repercussions.

Bahrain News Agency “BNA” reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom’s welcome to the success of the UAE’s mediation efforts in exchanging prisoners of war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, expressing its appreciation for the UAE’s diplomatic initiatives to resolve disputes peacefully and mitigate their humanitarian repercussions.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed Bahrain’s support for international efforts aimed at a ceasefire and finding a comprehensive and lasting political solution to end the crisis between Russia and Ukraine through dialogue and negotiations, in a manner consistent with the principles of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and contributes to enhancing security, stability and peace at the regional and international levels.

The day before yesterday, Emirati mediation succeeded in completing a prisoner exchange deal between Russia and Ukraine, according to which 248 soldiers were returned to Russia, in exchange for Ukraine returning more than 230 prisoners.

This mediation is not the first of its kind in the course of the crisis. Last February, Emirati mediation succeeded in completing a prisoner exchange deal between Russia and Ukraine, according to which 63 “sensitive category” prisoners of war were returned to Russia, in exchange for Ukraine’s return of 116 prisoners.
