Bahrain strengthens diplomatic ties with Israel | NOW

Bahrain is following in the footsteps of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by establishing diplomatic ties with Israel. The agreements made are aimed at reducing tensions in the Middle East.

US President Donald Trump announced the deal on Twitter on Friday after a telephone conversation with Bahraini King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

In a joint statement, the three leaders speak of a “historic breakthrough” for peace in the Middle East. They also say that they hope for more stability, security and prosperity in the region.

Bahrain becomes the fourth Arab country to have active diplomatic ties with Israel. The UAE made similar arrangements with Israel almost a month ago. Jordan and Egypt already strengthened diplomatic ties with Israel decades ago.

The United States is actively involved in normalizing ties between Arab countries and Israel. Representatives from the UAE, Bahrain and Israel sign the accords in Trump’s presence on Tuesday. This is happening in the White House.
