MPs recommend shifting weekend holiday in Bahrain to Saturday-Sunday Dr. This proposal has been put forward by five MPs under the leadership of Ali Al Nuaimi. They also suggest to make Fridays a half working day.
If approved, the working day in Bahrain will be four and a half days a week, similar to the UAE, Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia and Mauritania. Parliament Speaker Ahmed Al Musallam has forwarded the proposal to the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee for review.
It is estimated that Saturday and Sunday will be a holiday to facilitate international financial transactions and will be beneficial for business transactions.

Chairman of the committee, Mohsin Al Azbool, requested that all concerned be called to a meeting next Monday to give their opinion on the proposal. Al Azbool said he did not believe the change would cause damage or loss to the economy or productivity.
“We don’t want to point to Morocco, Indonesia, Malaysia or Mauritania as successful examples. But the UAE’s recent move has shown how beneficial it is,” he added.
“Earlier in Bahrain, the weekend was Thursday and Friday. Now it’s Friday and Saturday. It was moved to Saturday and Sunday to facilitate international transactions. “Every second counts when some people say the status quo is okay and business opportunities change in a fraction of a second,” said Al Azbool. He said that if new change is possible, new opportunities will come more than before.
Meanwhile, GDN reported that 40 percent of Bahrainis surveyed in July 2022 said they would prefer the current two-day weekend to continue instead of moving to a four-and-a-half-day workday.

Media reports from the UAE stated that the attendance of employees in the UAE has improved with the introduction of four and a half days a week. Reports also show that this has increased employee productivity and allowed them to get more rest.
It was in 2022 that a four-and-a-half-day working day per week was implemented for public sector organizations in the UAE. The working day is organized in the same way for schools. There is also an opportunity for private institutions to choose weekend holidays as per their preference.
