Bahrain F1 2022 Test Ends, George Russell Calls Mercedes Cars Undeveloped : Okezone Sports

SAKHIR – Mercedes AMG Petronas Team Driver, George Russell ended the Formula One preseason test (F1) 2022 Bahrain with disappointment. The reason is that he feels that the Mercedes W13 he uses still has many shortcomings and is experiencing the same problems as participating in the shakedown session in Barcelona, which means there are no changes at all.

As is known, the 2022 F1 pre-season test has been completed. The drivers carried out the test for three days starting Friday at the Bahrain International Circuit.

The results of these tests did not seem satisfactory enough for the Silver Arrows – Mercedes’ nickname. The reason is, two drivers, namely Lewis Hamilton and Russell are still struggling to get out to be the fastest.

Russell, who is Mercedes’ new driver this season, admits that there is still much to be done. The former Williams Racing driver also said that the performance of the W13 car was still not perfect.

“In my opinion it was quite productive but very interesting at the same time. Obviously there’s a lot to learn about this 2022 car, with the tires,” said Russell.

“It’s pretty clear some of the problems a lot of teams have with bouncing, just trying to work around that. Yes, it must have bounced a lot from the inside. Honestly, it’s very uncomfortable.”

“I don’t really care about comfort if the performance is there. But at the moment the performance is not there,” he said.

During this pre-season test, Mercedes did look different. Just like other teams that changed their sidepod and the floor edge. However, Russell considered that the problems faced by the German factory team were still the same as the shakedown session held in Barcelona. Although.

“From the outside it looks very different but appearance is not everything, that’s what many people say. It’s still the same fundamental car under its skin, and it still has the same fundamental problems we faced at Barcelona.”

Furthermore, Russell and other drivers will soon be preparing for the inaugural F1 2022 race. The race will be held at the Bahrain Circuit on March 20, 2022.
