Bahn wants to build a new high-speed line

In future, rail travelers should be able to travel at high speed from Hanover to Hamburg. To do this, the company wants to expand the route. When it will be so far, however, has not yet been determined.

Deutsche Bahn wants to significantly increase the number of high-speed lines in the coming years. There should be more speed on the routes between Hanover and Hamburg, Stuttgart and Ulm as well as Frankfurt and Mannheim. “We will expand the high-speed lines by 50 percent in the medium term – from now 1,000 to 1,500 kilometers,” said rail board member Ronald Pofalla to the newspapers of the Funke media group (Friday).

According to the information, an Intercity Express (ICE) can travel at least 250 kilometers per hour on high-speed routes, sometimes even faster. Pofalla did not want to commit to an exact time frame. “Every major infrastructure project that we plan is accompanied by protests and objections,” he said. A timeframe of at least ten to twelve years is realistic.

The ICE is currently celebrating its 30th birthday: on May 29, 1991, the first high-speed train was inaugurated in Germany, and on June 2, the first ICE began in regular service.
