The beautiful city of Bahmut turned into a wasteland in a year as it became the ‘largest battleground’ during the Russian-Ukrainian war. According to News 1 on the 19th, on the 17th (local time), US satellite analysis company Maxar Technologies released satellite images showing the damage Bahmut suffered over the past year.
Bahmut, a small city with a population of 73,000, was a small but beautiful city full of lush trees, but in a year, apartment buildings, iconic buildings of the city, shops, schools, and businesses were destroyed, leaving only rubble.
Most of the trees have been burned and the buildings are covered in brown dust. In addition, there were so many hollowed-out shell pits that it was difficult to count them all over the streets of Bahmut.
Bakhmut, Donetsk Province, eastern Ukraine, is considered the site of the fiercest battle in the Ur-Raina War. Russian regular forces and the Wagner Group of private mercenaries have been on the offensive for the past 10 months to take control of Bahmut, but have been repeatedly blocked by fierce resistance from the Ukrainian army.
According to Business Insider, 20,000 Russians were reported to have died in the six months from December last year. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine is also bearing a heavy burden. It is impossible to guarantee how long it will be able to withstand the Russian attack.
Business Insider said, “Bahmut was a beautiful city full of leafy green trees until it was targeted by Russia,” and “now it has been devastated by shelling and airstrikes.”
