Jakarta –
Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia said that Indonesia currently imports 1 million barrels of oil per day to meet domestic consumption needs. Even though Indonesia in the past could export 1 million barrels of oil per day.
“If we look back, almost 30 years ago, 96, 97, our oil production was about 1,600,000 barrels per day and our consumption was not more than 600-700 thousand barrels per day, we could still about 1 million exports and state income at that time was about 40-50%,” said Bahlil at the Oil and Gas Safety Awards Evening, Monday (7/10/2024).
Bahlil said that this situation occurred because domestic oil production continued to decline. On the other hand, consumption is increasing.

“2024, 2023, 2022, our production will continue to decline, even now we are down to almost 600 thousand barrels, our consumption is now 1 million. So in the background, in 96, 97 we exported 1 million, now we import 1 million barrels per day.
According to Bahlil, Cooperation Contract Contractors (KKKS) and upstream contractors have made various efforts to increase oil production. In the future, it is said that the next government under Prabowo Subianto is implementing an energy sovereignty program.
“In the future, Pak Prabowo and Mas Gibran have a program, one of which is energy sovereignty, as well as food sovereignty,” he said.
Bahlil also outlined future efforts to increase oil and gas extraction. First, by cutting licenses and at the same time changing the total division with cost recovery.
“Now we are changing the total split to cost recovery. There is a new total split that was previously 29 items. I read it myself. Why are the criteria so long, not a person -entrepreneurs still, then the minister read it, I said this So we are narrow from “29 to 5 items to give freedom to contractors to choose the path so that we can then increase our construction process and speed it up,” said Bahlil.
