Bahia Makes History with 10,000th Goal in Brazilian Football

In the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, midfielder Thaciano scored Bahia’s second goal against Caxias in the clash for the second phase of the Copa do Brasil – the final result is yet to be updated. With this, the club reached a historic milestone at the Centenário Stadium. That goal was the 10,000th goal in the history of Baêa, now 93 years old. It’s a very restricted brand.

With the precise finish from the 28-year-old from Paraíba, 40 minutes into the first half, Esquadrão de Aço became the 14th Brazilian club to reach this level, being only the second in the Northeast – Santa Cruz was the pioneer, on January 18 2020. Unsurprisingly, the ranking is led by Santos. Peixe, in fact, has already surpassed 13 thousand, 1,091 of which through King Pelé, the country’s top scorer. The São Paulo club scored its 10,000th goal in 1998! In recent times, however, Flamengo has been approaching. Today, the difference between the leader and the runner-up is just 24 goals – see the ranking below.

The list considers the goals scored in all matches of the main teams, both in official competitions and in friendlies. In the case of the Salvador team, this volume arrived after 5,635 matches with a known result. On average, 1.77. Regarding the “contribution”, it is worth noting that only twelve players scored more than 100 goals wearing the Bahia shirt. Carlito, who played between 1946 and 1959, is the record holder. The mark is very difficult to surpass in current football: 233 goals. Below is the list of tricolor scorers.

Watch Bahia’s 10,000th goal, with Thaciano etching his name into history:

Currently, Brazil has 850 professional clubs. Considering the compilation of surveys, based on the exceptional website Futebol 80 and with data from researchers Pedro Pereira (Bahia), Mauro Bastos (Ceará) and Carlos Celso Cordeiro (football from Pernambuco), it is possible to observe only 29 clubs with more than 7 thousand goals scored . The seven largest in the NE are present. The next one to reach the “10 thousand goal” should be Sport. 48 to go.

Below, check the ranking of goals scored in the country, with data updated until March 12, 2024. It is worth noting that the number of games played, in parentheses, refers to known results, as some matches from the past, especially between 1900 and 1920, the score was not reported in the newspapers, due to little sports coverage at the time.
