Bagneux: gas cut after an arson

A dustbin fire has unfortunate consequences for an entire district of Bagneux. This Tuesday evening, more than 400 homes are deprived of gas and should remain so until Wednesday. All because a man set fire to a garbage container in the afternoon, rue des Fossés, in the city center.

The trash can, which was directly above a building located at number 5 rue des Fossés, was set ablaze at around 3.15 p.m. Quickly, the fire spread to a gas valve and then a pipe which, fortunately, did not explode. But she melted.

The firefighters intervened and at the same time, GRDF technicians dispatched to the site spotted the valve connected to the damaged pipe. They closed it, which cuts off the gas supply to this sector of the city center, between rue des Fossés and avenue Gabriel-Péri.

The arsonist was arrested

“Four hundred and fifty households are concerned,” indicates the spokesperson for GRDF. But by the early evening, gas had been restored to about thirty homes. Repairs were to continue for part of the night and resume early on Wednesday. The return to normal for all is scheduled for mid-day.

The release of smoke, then the arrival of firefighters, also worried the teachers of the neighboring primary school, whose principal made the students leave by another exit than the one usually borrowed. As for the guard of the establishment, he opposed the arsonist, who was then arrested and taken into police custody. The 33-year-old man was still at the police station in the early evening.
