Bagnaia Takes Pole and Track Record at Mugello MotoGP Qualifying

The thunderbolt of Mugello is Pecco Bagnaia, who argues with Marc Marquez, but has the coolness to take pole with the track record of 1.44.855. In the hope that they don’t have to unleash lightning, even from the leaden sky, the Ducatista’s lightning bolt illuminates the Tuscan circuit. Bagnaia displays a piece of skill: he gets nervous with Marquez for a nonchalant exit of the Spaniard from the pits while he is launching, he gesticulates conspicuously at him (below), he relaunches taking him with him in the usual slipstreaming game, but manages to keep the strong nerves to achieve the time that counts for both the pole position and the track record. Marc Marquez ends up behind him, 78 thousandths behind him with the Honda, ahead of his brother Alex, third at 0.152 on the Ducati Gresini, after passing from Q1. Bagnaia and two Marquezes in the front row: an interesting start, unless the judges, invoked by Ducati sporting director Paolo Ciabatti (“Marc made him lose concentration, I hope the stewards do something”), penalize Marc for a situation in which, by eye, however, there seemed to be enough space between the two to speak of obstruction.

exciting session

Under the eyes of Valentino Rossi, fresh from his victory in the Road to Le Mans in the GT3 category on his BMW M4 of Team Wrt, and Andrea Dovizioso, fresh from his entry into the MotoGP Legend, the Mugello qualifying did not disappoint. Deetto of the Bagnaia show, in the second row are the KTM of Jack Miller (+0.331), who also passed from Q1, and Jorge Martin (Ducati Pramac, 0.413) and Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati VR46 +0.435). To complete the top-10 here are: 7. the aching Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia, +0.525); 8. Johann Zarco (Ducati Pramac, 0.772); 9. Alex Rins (Honda Lcr, +0.847) and 10. Brad Binder (Ktm, 0.876), who also crashed. A crash also for Enea Bastianini, in the initial stages: the Ducati rider from Rimini will start from 12th behind Luca Marini.

q1 and remainder of the grid

As mentioned, Alex Marquez (1.45.231) and Jack Miller (at 0.328) have passed from Q1, while Maverick Vinales with the Aprilia is rejected (he stops 32 thousandths from Miller): he will start from 13th in front of Franco Morbidelli’s Yamahas and Fabio Quartararo. 17. on the grid Miche Pirro, 19th Fabio Di Giannantonio who precedes Raul Fernandez, who crashed disastrously at Biondetti, a corner that is still fatal. 22nd on the grid Lorenzo Savadori and absent Joan Mir. In fact, the Honda Spaniard sustained an injury to the little finger of his right hand in yesterday’s crash and had to forfeit. It is the second GP that jumps after that of Argentina.
