With poignant words and eyes filled with tears, Moroccan world champion Badr Hari announced on Saturday evening that he was withdrawing from his anticipated fight against Englishman James McSweeney, in solidarity with the victims of the devastating earthquake that struck his country on Friday.
The Moroccan star decided to withdraw from the confrontation that was part of the “Glory 88” evening, and also requested that it be postponed to another time.
Harry said in a speech to the audience present in the Dom de Paris hall in the French capital: “Morocco is wounded, people have died, and there are children who have lost their parents.”
He also continued in the Moroccan dialect: “We are not here to play and laugh and be happy… He promised the audience a strong return… and I swear to that,” indicating that this is the time for Morocco, and today it is sad and cannot play and be happy, pledging to repeat the match at a later time and present His best.
He added: “This is the time for Morocco… May God have mercy on those who died.”
It is noteworthy that the Moroccan Ministry of Interior had announced in a previous statement yesterday evening that the number of deaths caused by the earthquake reached 2,012 people.
While the number of wounded rose to 2,059, including 1,404 in serious condition, according to the same source, who indicated that the authorities “continue their efforts to rescue the wounded, evacuate them, take care of the injured, and mobilize all necessary capabilities.”
