Thanks to a clear 6:2 victory at bottom WBH Vienna, defending champion BSC 70 Linz got the last semi-final ticket. The semi-finals will take place on March 18, 2023, with the table first after the basic round – ASV Pressbaum – going against Badminton Mödling and Traun against BSC 70 Linz in the semi-finals.

ASV Pressbaum (Andreas Meinke):
In the last game of the regular season against Wolfurt, we still had to maintain our lead in the standings. Even if mathematically a draw was enough, we still had a good line-up in the last home game. With the 6:2 win we were able to end the basic round undefeated and now we hope that all players are healthy and available for the semi-finals. As the top of the table, ASV Pressbaum was entitled to choose their opponent in the semi-finals. With our choice of Badminton Mödling, the semi-finals on March 18th in Pressbaum will be the Lower Austria Derby for the second time this year.

WBH Vienna (Lukas Weißenbäck):
Against last year’s champion from Linz, we fielded an almost pure WBH self-made team. Oliver Truchanowicz and Florian Wöhrl celebrated their debut in the Bundesliga and with Lena Schindler, Lorenz Oberndorfer, Simon Habersack and Piotr Jaszczynski four other WBH talents were on the field. The team was completed by the two long-time favorites Isabel Delueg and Lukas Weißenbäck, who contributed one of the two match points. Lena Schindler also scored in the women’s singles. Another great opportunity for our young players to gain match practice at a high level. Planning for the upcoming playoffs against Wolfurt, Ohlsdorf and Graz is now starting. It is clear that Wolfurt will manage to stay up. How we will continue to align ourselves will become clear in the next few days.

UBSC Wolfurt (Michael Vonmetz):
As expected, there was not much to gain against the (almost) full-strength Pressbaumer and since Linz won in Vienna at the same time, participating in the play-off is not enough this year either. In the game against Pressbaum, Rene Nichterwitz – in doubles with Kilian Meusburger – and Kate Ludik in singles were once again convincing. The remaining games were clearly lost against partly overpowering opponents. In the event of a tie on points with the reigning champions from Linz, as in the past season, a single win is missing for qualifying for the play-off. The chances of this “missing” point were numerous this season and were partly unfortunate but sometimes miserably awarded. In addition, Linz benefits from the “free” point from the penalty-verified game against Vienna at the beginning of the season.
But it doesn’t help to mope now, we have to prepare for the upcoming tasks. If we go to work with full concentration, we are optimistic that we can live up to our role as favourites.

BSC 70 Linz (Harald Hochgatterer):
With their backs against the wall, a complete success had to be booked against Vienna today. The team fought really well for the small chance. After Wolfurt lost to Pressbaum, our chance to jump on the play-off train was still alive. Unfortunately, we rarely had a complete squad available throughout the season! Now the cards are being reshuffled!

Badminton Modling (Bianca Schiester):
With a 4:4 draw against Traun we end the regular season in 3rd place. After a very turbulent season, especially concerning our No. 1 Jan Louda, we have to be satisfied with this position. With a team that was again very decimated, we were also able to get a draw against Traun. Dominik Stipsits and Luka Wraber got the points in the first men’s doubles, Dominik also got a second point alongside Reka Sarosi in the mixed doubles, Bianca Schiester and Michael Tomic were able to win their singles confidently. A win would have been possible. Now it’s up to the entire team to use the next three weeks until the semi-finals to get fully fit and prepare as best as possible for the encounter.

ASKÖ Traun (Herbert Koch):
In the last round of the basic round, ASKÖ Traun and Badminton Mödling separated after an exciting game with a 4:4 draw. Both teams lacked the respective number 1 in the women’s and men’s. A total of five games were only decided in the 3rd set. In the first men’s singles, Wolfgang Gnedt managed to take revenge for the final defeat at the state championships a few weeks ago. He prevailed against Luka Wraber 12:21, 24:22 and 21:15.
After the ASV-Pressbaum, as the first in the basic round, chose the Mödlinger as semi-final opponents. it comes in the 2nd semi-final to O.Ö. derbies On March 18, 2023, there was a dispute between the two O.Ö. Teams from Traun and Linz. Certainly a highlight in the current championship.
