Oslo has by far the most proven animal species in the country. Here’s a guide to the city’s wildlife. Who lives in your neighborhood?
—
There are three things animals want in this life: find food, mate and avoid becoming food.
All the animals you see in the city come for these reasons, says Petter Bøckman. He is a zoologist and grew up in Oslo.
We call most city animals generalists, he explains. This means that they can live in many ways and eat a lot of different things. They are not dependent on just one thing.
A bit like us humans.
The specialists, on the other hand, such as beavers and puffins, rarely stay in the city for long.
But sometimes they come to visit.
Just look at the map. It shows observations from the Species Data Bank. Do you find something exciting in your neighborhood?
