The state of Baden-Württemberg is funding RadKULTUR 2021 in 17 municipalities
Minister Hermann: “Sustainable mobility begins in the head”
A diverse and colorful annual program for everything to do with cycling awaits the 17 cities and districts, which this year are promoting the state as part of the initiative RadKULTUR receive. Never in the history of the state initiative have so many municipalities been funded at the same time.
“The numerous applications show once again that bicycles are the means of transport of our time. In more and more municipalities, cycling is gaining in importance. It is all the better that we can now support 17 cities and districts in promoting cycling even more with the RadKULTUR initiative “, emphasizes Transport Minister Winfried Hermann MdL. “Sustainable mobility begins in the mind and shouldn’t end there. The construction of new cycle paths only brings something if the paths are actually used.”
The cities of Baden-Baden, Filderstadt, Gaggenau, Hockenheim, Konstanz, Leinfelden-Echterdingen, Sigmaringen, Tuttlingen and Villingen-Schwenningen and the district of Böblingen will receive funding for the first time in 2021. The districts of Konstanz, Ludwigsburg and Schwäbisch Hall as well as the cities of Stuttgart, Bühl, Mengen and Neckarsulm could already look forward to the support of the RadKULTUR initiative in 2020 and can now build on it.
Together with the sponsored municipalities, the RadKULTUR initiative offers a wide range of opportunities to make cycling attractive locally. “In the hands-on activities such as CITY CYCLING, the popular RadSCHNITZELJAGD or LASTENrad-Verleih, there is something for everyone – for young and old, for schools, companies and clubs”, said Minister Hermann. The aim of all activities: to get people excited about cycling on their everyday journeys. “Commuting to work or school by bike not only keeps you fit, it also relieves cities of car traffic and protects the climate. Many people are surprised how good it is to change mobility habits and get on your bike more often. With the funding the RadKULTUR initiative is helping to make this change easier, “says Hermann.
For a bike-friendly mobility culture in Baden-Württemberg
The country is campaigning for modern and sustainable mobility. The share of cycling in the mobility mix is to be increased significantly. The RadKULTUR initiative has been a central measure of the state to promote a bicycle-friendly mobility culture since 2012. In close cooperation with municipalities and companies, as well as with the support of a steadily growing partner network, the initiative offers citizens positive cycling experiences in their individual everyday mobility. It becomes clear that the bicycle makes it possible to be modern in everyday life.
