Baden-Württemberg: Strike at AVG: delays and cancellations on S-Bahn trains in the Karlsruhe area

As of: October 13, 2024 11:30 a.m

There will be some cancellations or delays in KVV S-Bahn traffic in the Karlsruhe area on Monday. The ver.di union has called on AVG employees to go on a warning strike.

The ver.di union and the Albtalverkehrsgesellschaft (AVG) expect the strike to have significant effects. The S-Bahn trains in the Karlsruher Verkehrsbund (KVV), most of which are operated by the Albtalverkehrsgesellschaft (AVG), are affected. The AVG network extends from Karlsruhe to Heilbronn, Freudenstadt and Achern.

Strike also in AVG signal boxes and workshops

According to ver.di, signal boxes and workshops are also on strike. In the past, such a warning strike had effects even days later because, for example, S-Bahn trains could not be serviced in workshops and could therefore only be sent back on the rails late. According to AVG, it is impossible to predict in advance how big the impact will be this time. That depends primarily on how many employees stop working on Monday.

In the ongoing negotiations for a new railway collective agreement, the ver.di union is demanding significantly more money, 350 euros per month and inflation compensation of 1,300 euros.

ver.di: Employer did not respond to demands

The employers’ offer of three percent more money is “completely inadequate”, according to ver.di. The negotiations will continue in the second round on November 11th.

We expect an appropriate offer in the next round of negotiations.
Marcus Zabel, ver.di Central Baden-Northern Black Forest

There are restrictions in the Karlsruhe transport association. The reason is a warning strike by the ver.di union.
