Long faces in retail after the second Saturday in Advent

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) – Business on the second Saturday of Advent was disappointing for trade in the southwest, according to the trade association. “The nationwide 2G rule in retail is an absolute mood killer in the Christmas business,” emphasized Managing Director Sabine Hagmann on Sunday. Due to the particularly strict Corona regulations in Baden-Württemberg, many customers avoided the city centers and stationary retail. According to an association survey, sales in the shops fell by an average of ten percent compared to the first Saturday in Advent.

In order to save the Christmas business in retail, the 2G regulation, according to which only vaccinated and convalescent people have access, must be abolished immediately for the industry, Hagmann demanded. The restrictions are disproportionate. If no countermeasures are taken, the dealers would have to be supported with special and compensatory payments.
