This victory was hard won. The competition demanded top technical performance from all six teams and was a real challenge.

Robin Göppner from TEAM GRÜN Furtner-Althaus in Elzach and Simon Riese from Hügel mehr Garten GmbH in Rümmingen were very happy about this award. They will start in September 2021 for Baden-Württemberg at the German championships in gardening and landscaping at the Federal Garden Show in Erfurt. The bosses Benedict Bosler from TEAM GRÜN Furtner-Althaus and Marcus Hügel from the gardening and landscaping company of the same name are justifiably proud of their trainees, both of whom were on site yesterday during the competition

Vice champions are Hannah Tannert and Tobias Doller from GARTEN-Moser Holding GmbH & Co. KG from Reutlingen. Third place on the podium was secured by Max Rayher and Felix Scheu from Albrecht Bühler Baum und Garten GmbH in Nürtingen.

Sabine Kurtz MdL, State Secretary for Nutrition, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection Baden-Württemberg, took over together with Erwin Halter, Chairman of the Association of Gardening, Landscaping and Sports Field Construction Baden-Württemberg e. V., the award ceremony. “Stay curious and interested in your further education and training. Your industry is very attractive, ”Kurtz encouraged the competition participants. “With these achievements, the young landscape gardeners can look optimistically into their professional future and so can we as training companies”, assured Halter, who was enthusiastic about the excellent achievements of all 12 trainees.

A small garden in record time

The task of landscape gardening required the competition participants to have a very high level of technical skills and knowledge. Due to several very time-consuming tasks, the six-member jury, consisting of entrepreneurs and trainers, extended the available competition time by half an hour to a total of 7.5 hours. Six, almost identical, small gardens were created with a hand-embossed double-headed natural stone wall made of Rorschach sandstone including a seat made of wood and a small, challenging, lower-lying paved area made of small paving, in the middle of which was a square plate with the signum, the symbol of the specialist companies. Standard hornbeam trunks as well as shrubs and perennials had to be planted appropriately for the location and six step plates had to be laid at the right height.

In addition to technical and manual skills, creativity and local knowledge of the planting, the ability to work in a team and, above all, mental resilience were required. Robin Göppner and Simon Riese competed perfectly in an excellent competition. The two prospective landscape gardeners are therefore well prepared for the national competition at the Federal Garden Show in Erfurt.
