Investigations into the dead lynx near St. Blasien are ongoing

Freiburg (dpa / lsw) – The investigations into the killed lynx, which was found near St. Blasien in the Black Forest, are ongoing. The extremely rare animal is said to have died as a result of violence. How exactly the lynx was killed, the police and the public prosecutor did not want to say on Friday for tactical reasons. The location is probably not the scene of the crime: “We assume that the lynx was killed somewhere else,” said a police spokesman.

The lynx had been dead for several days when a walker discovered him on Monday morning next to a forest path on a steep slope near Menzenschwand (Waldshut-Tiengen district). The location was probably chosen for “disposal”.

According to Forest Minister Peter Hauk (CDU), the dead young male lynx is not one of the only four lynxes that have settled in the southwest. This resulted in a comparison of the spot pattern with the lynxes known in Baden-Württemberg. It is believed that the animal came across the very close Swiss border.

According to the public prosecutor’s office, the animal will be examined pathologically. The investigators are investigating suspected violations of the Animal Welfare and Federal Nature Conservation Act and are looking for witnesses who have seen vehicles or people near the location in the “Schützenwald” district.
