Baden-Württemberg: Clinics and homes report 32,000 unvaccinated employees – Southwest

Stuttgart. (dpa/lsw) Baden-Württemberg clinics and homes passed on the data of almost 32,000 unvaccinated employees to the health authorities by the end of the reporting period. “In abstract terms, around 32,000 people are a very large number,” said Uwe Lahl, head of the pandemic management department in the Ministry of Social Affairs. However, a total of around 1.8 million people worked in the health sector. The majority of them are therefore aware of their special responsibility.

Since mid-March, the so-called facility-related compulsory vaccination has been in force in Baden-Württemberg. Since then, clinics, homes and facilities, practices and outpatient services have had to report employees to the health department who have not been vaccinated or have recovered or who have doubts about the authenticity of the evidence presented. According to the ministry, 5,622 institutions had participated by the end of the two-week feedback period.

The authorities decide in each individual case how to proceed with unvaccinated employees. An attempt is first made to convince those concerned of the measure. It is intended to better protect vulnerable groups – such as residents in nursing homes or the sick – from infection with the virus. If no rethinking is in sight, the health department can prohibit those affected from entering the workplace and the activity carried out there “within a reasonable period of time”. A fine of up to 2500 euros is also possible. Since the officials have discretion, they can allow the unvaccinated but daily tested employee to stay temporarily in the event of a major staff shortage.

Nine out of ten care workers are vaccinated twice

Stuttgart. (dpa) According to new figures from the State Health Office (as of March 25), 91.8 percent of employees and 94.5 percent of those cared for were double vaccinated, 67.2 percent of employees and 83.4 percent of those cared for were also boosted. All quotas are above those in the corresponding age groups in the population, the ministry announced on Thursday in Stuttgart.

According to the so-called facility-related corona vaccination obligation, all employees of clinics, nursing homes, medical and dental practices, rescue services, rehabilitation facilities, workshops for the disabled and outpatient nursing services must disclose their vaccination status to the employer. If no proof is submitted, the facilities must inform the responsible health authority.

According to the ministry, the February vaccination rate for the so-called basic immunization – the double protection – was 88.4 percent for employees (January 2022: 85.4 percent, December 2021: 81.6 percent) and 93.1 percent for those cared for (January 2022: 92.3 percent / December 2021: 91.2 percent).
