Stuttgart (dpa/lsw) – Economics Minister Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut (CDU) set off for Canada with a business delegation of around 50 people. The CDU politician said in Stuttgart that the country is an interesting partner and a market with enormous growth potential for providers of key technologies such as digital networking, artificial intelligence or electromobility. The first part of the trip takes the delegation to the partner province of Ontario. The group plans to travel on Wednesday to Montréal in the province of Quebec. Both provinces are considered Canada’s economic powerhouses. Last year, Germany and Canada concluded an energy partnership. That is why the topic of climate technology is of great importance for both countries.
According to the statement, in 2022 Baden-Württemberg exported goods worth 2.74 billion euros to Canada. Motor vehicles and motor vehicle parts accounted for the largest share of exports at 806 million euros, followed by pharmaceutical and similar products at 527 million euros and machinery at 504 million euros. In 2022, the country imported goods worth 404 million euros. Other goods accounted for the largest share of imports at 70 million euros, followed by data processing equipment, electronic and optical products (64 million euros) and metals (51 million euros).
According to information from the IHK Region Stuttgart, more than 900 Baden-Württemberg companies have business relationships with Canada, as the Ministry of Economic Affairs also announced.
