The police have arrested a man who is said to have attacked a married couple in Heidelberg on Monday because of a T-shirt that bore a pro-Israel slogan.

During a personal check in Ludwigshafen on Thursday, the police arrested the man who is said to have attacked a married couple in Heidelberg on Monday because of a T-shirt. According to the police, the man felt disturbed by the woman’s T-shirt.

“Bring them home now”

The top featured the Star of David and the English inscription “Bring them home now” – a demand to free the Israeli hostages kidnapped by the Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas on October 7, 2023. The police therefore assumed that it was a politically motivated crime.

Suspect reported to police

The 29-year-old suspect was photographed during the crime. According to the police, he contacted officers by telephone after the photos were published and admitted to being the person they were looking for. Since he did not want to disclose his whereabouts, the Heidelberg public prosecutor’s office applied for an arrest warrant.

10,000 Euro deposit

As the police announced on Friday, the suspect was arrested on Thursday evening during a personal check in Ludwigshafen. He has now been brought before the investigating judge. The arrest warrant against the man was suspended in return for bail of 10,000 euros. Since he was initially unable to raise the money, he was taken to prison.

According to the police’s current findings, the suspect first approached the woman on Monday evening and grabbed her by her T-shirt. He then ordered her to take off her T-shirt. The woman suffered minor injuries to her upper body. When the husband tried to help his wife, the suspect hit him several times in the face.

According to his statement, the husband had a tooth knocked out. The police were alerted and eventually arrived at Heidelberg’s Neckarmünzplatz, whereupon the attacker fled and escaped.
