Stuttgart – More than 400 new regular and citizen buses in the southwest will be funded with 26.8 million euros in 2021. This is intended to make it easier for operators to switch to climate-friendly forms of drive. Transport Minister Winfried Hermann (Greens) announced on Sunday in Stuttgart that the state wanted to support public transport companies in implementing the EU requirements.
He emphasized: “A large part of the state funds are already used today to promote the purchase of completely emission-free vehicles with battery-electric drives or fuel cell drives as well as trolleybuses”. This proportion will be continuously increased. For emission-free vehicles, for example, funding applications worth 10.37 million euros are to be approved this year.
To support locally organized, voluntary transport services, the state subsidizes the purchase of citizens’ buses with a total of 268,000 euros.
