According to the fire brigade, the truck crashed into the concrete center baffle and overturned. The result was a complete blockage of the A2 towards the south.
According to the ÖAMTC, the traffic jam reached a length of around ten kilometers. A large-scale diversion was established via the Guntramsdorf A3 junction – Eisenstadt S31 junction – Mattersburg S4 node back to the Wiener Neustadt junction on the A2 towards Graz.
The overturned truck blocked the A2 in the direction of Graz for more than five hours. Shortly before 10.45 a.m., ASFINAG was able to open the first three lanes to traffic again. The fourth lane remains closed until the repair work has been completed – the concrete baffle has been damaged.
50-ton crane vehicle requested
The FF Mödling 50-ton crane vehicle was requested for the truck salvage on the southern motorway, reported the Baden Fire Brigade Command. The heavy vehicle had to be unloaded before it could be set up again. According to the emergency services, the saddle vehicle had around 17 tons of food pots in buckets on board.
