Baden city center: the heat hotspots in summer

Too much concrete, too little green: these places in Baden’s city centre become heat hotspots in summer

The city has stopped the project of hanging gardens. Their cooling effect would have been urgently needed. Because in two districts in particular, it gets hot above average in summer – this is shown by the climate map of the canton.

The intersection at Schulhausplatz is one of the hottest places in Baden – even the newly planted trees can not compensate for the heat.

For years, large trees have been disappearing from the city center of Baden – for example, from the church square or from the area of the new upper school center Burghalde. And now the hanging gardens also do not come about. The project was stopped for financing reasons: “The original loan of CHF 340,000 would not have been enough,” City Councillor Benjamin Steiner (team) told this newspaper. In-depth investigations had shown that the implementation of the hanging gardens would have cost around 1.5 million francs. Instead, the already budgeted loan is now used to plant some trees.
