Bad weather. Red notice extended to eight districts

The eight districts are under red warning due to the forecast of sometimes heavy and persistent rain and occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms and the possibility of extreme wind events.

The red notice for the eight districts will be in effect between 12:00 and 18:00 today. It corresponds to a meteorological situation of extreme risk. In this situation, IPMA recommends that people keep up with the evolution of weather conditions and follow the Civil Protection guidelines.

Mainland Portugal is under the effect of the Bárbara depression, which is giving rise to heavy precipitation, increased wind intensity with gusts up to 100 kilometers per hour and up to 130 kilometers per hour in the highlands and maritime unrest, especially on the coast of the region south.

In Setúbal, a scaffold fell on Avenida Luisa Todi due to the strong wind. The structure, which was being used in the construction of a vacant building, caused traffic problems in the main artery of the city.

Monday was already a lot of work for Civil Protection, as Commander Paulo Santos, of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, told Antena 1. The authorities had to respond to 510 occurrences in 24 hours.

During this dawn there were records of fifteen occurrences across the country, as a result of the Bárbara depression, which affects Portuguese territory.

But the situation, said commander Paulo Santos, could worsen today.
