A man died in Lepeno, Agrinio, in Aetolia-Acarnania, as Storm Cassandra caused extensive damage throughout western Greece.
The 52-year-old guard at an asphalt production facility was found about six kilometers from his post, possibly washed away by floods. Before losing contact, he told a colleague that a nearby stream had overflowed due to heavy rain.
Extensive damage was reported in the nearby towns of Stratos and Rivio, where flowing streams flooded basements and stranded motorists.
On the island of Corfu, lightning strikes caused power outages, and flooded streets caused rodent infestations for local businesses. The fire department responded to remove fallen branches and help with flooding in hotels and shops. Air travel was disrupted, with several flights unable to land at Corfu airport, forcing it to divert elsewhere.
In Epirus, fallen trees and landslides blocked roads and damaged buildings, prompting emergency responses.
Evia in the center and south was also affected, with half of the town of Kriezos left without street lights.
