(ANSA) – VICENZA, OCTOBER 18 – The alert remains high in Vicenza due to the wave of bad weather which led to the progressive rising of the rivers that cross the historic centre. At mid-morning the Bacchiglione exceeded the warning level at Ponte degli Angeli set at 4.50 metres, although the flood, with a level above 5 metres, is expected for the afternoon, due to the heavy rainfall currently taking place in the mountains and in the Piedmont area. For the moment, the Retrone is of lesser concern as it has reached 2.70 meters in the Sant’Agostino area. The Municipality reports flooding in various parts of the city, including in the Settecà hamlet, while in the area of the new courthouse the water pumps are ready to go into action. In the Debba area, the bridge was closed as a precaution, thus prohibiting pedestrian and cycle passage. The rising rivers will most likely lead to the opening of a good part of the province’s lamination basins: the first to come into operation, around 9 this morning, was that of Isola Vicentina.
