The coming hours will be difficult for the Czech Republic due to the adverse weather. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute has issued an important warning that warns of heavy rainfall, intense wind and the threat of flooding. More than ever, it therefore pays to follow not only the current weather, but also any warnings that meteorologists refine and change several times a day. Even in a relatively small area, such as the Czech Republic, the weather can vary significantly.
To get information about the weather today, a mobile phone, which you should always have with you and sufficiently charged, will serve you well. Almost every smartphone has a native weather app that displays current temperature, cloud cover, and more detailed forecast information when clicked. However, these apps often only provide general information, and if you want to be more informed, it’s worth using other specialized apps.
Meteoradar
We will start with the well-known application Meteoradar, or Meteor, which allows you to monitor the current weather. You’ll see the movement of clouds and especially precipitation, so you’ll easily know how long it will take for the rain to arrive and whether you should reevaluate your plans. The app offers many setting options, including a dark mode. It is available for free for Android and iOS and is the most used weather radar in the Czech Republic.
Meteoradar Windy app
For more demanding people interested in the weather, there is the Windy application. It is not only focused on the Czech Republic, but allows you to monitor the weather anywhere in the world. You can view weather radar, satellite images, a detailed overview of wind intensity, precipitation and temperature. A forecast is available for several days ahead, in all the mentioned categories. In large cities (in our country, for example, Prague), a temperature map is also available. You can also display cloud cover or wave intensity, which will be appreciated by those who are going to surf or sail on the open sea. The Windy application is free for Android, iOS and Huawei phones with HarmonyOS, but it is possible to pay extra for the Premium version, which offers a more detailed forecast for the next few hours, a weather forecast up to 10 days ahead, and records from satellites and radars up to a year back.
Application Windy CHMÚ
In the current situation, when there is a threat of intense precipitation, the application of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute called ČHMÚ will probably be the most useful for you. It is available for free for both Android and iOS. The app offers an hourly forecast for your location, a forecast for the next few days, radar images and a rainfall forecast. The Alerts tab is especially important now, where you can find current alerts for your city with a detailed breakdown of the severity of the situation, the duration of the alert and specific threats.
Application of ČHMÚ Social network
In the coming hours, the weather will be very dynamic and many things can change from hour to hour. Therefore, it is useful to have as much up-to-date information as possible. In addition to radar images, it is also worth monitoring social networks. We especially recommend the channels of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, which is active on Facebook and the social network X (formerly Twitter).
On their profiles (Facebook; social network X) you will find not only detailed information, but also graphic overviews of the current situation and warnings. As mentioned, heavy rainfall and wind can cause some rivers and streams to rise. For these purposes, we recommend watching special account ČHMÚ_hydrologiewhere you will be immediately notified of flood activity. You will also be notified when the danger has passed and river levels have returned to normal.
