Bad weather in China: at least 21 dead (new assessment)
Beijing – At least 21 people were killed among participants in a 100 km mountain run hit by severe weather in northwestern China, according to Chinese media.
All the other competitors are safe and sound, since “at 3 a.m. on Sunday, 151 participants (were) safe”, according to the official China news agency, which specified that 172 people in total had taken part in the race. in the Yellow River Stone Forest, near Baiyin Town, Gansu Province.
A runner who was missing was found at 9:30 am local time, but “had already lost his life,” noted the CCTV television channel, citing the local first aid center.
“This implies that this incident killed 21 people in total,” CCTV added. City officials had previously reported 20 dead and one missing.
The Yellow River Stone Forest is a natural site famous for its spectacular four billion-year-old rock formations, often used as the setting for movies or TV shows in China.
